I am beginner with very little experience. So I am now starting to dive in to Lightroom and Photoshop to enhance my images. Just figuring out photography and starting to get better results. If you learn better from videos, George Jardine, a former Lightroom Product Manager for Adobe, has the best video tutorials but they are a bit expensive: It only took me two or three readings to fully understand the software. So my suggestion is to download and print off a copy of the User Guide and read it while playing around with the software. Add to that the fact that the User Guide is produced in gorgeous full-color, and unlike books or videos, it is updated every month or so for clarity or additional information.

I've read many Lightroom books and they only rehash the information that's already available for free in the User Guide. Most people don't seem to be aware that a User Guide exists but I've found it to be the most comprehensive and reliable source of information. You can find the Adobe Lightroom 6/CC User Guide here: He does a lot of landscape work but it translates really seamlessly to portraiture as well if you pay attention to details Kudos Serge. Ive been using LR4 since it was released and Serge does easily the best job of anyone explaining and showing what Lightroom is able to do. Then when I wanted to learn the details of all the features, I downloaded a copy of the free Lightroom User Guide and had it printed and spiral bound at my local Kinko's store for about $10. The videos in this 'book' are Hands on great.

Nothing in the software can permanently change your photos so there's no risk to that approach. I learned Lightroom during its first beta release nearly 10 years ago by simply experimenting and playing around.
